My story

From Childhood to Healing: My Journey in Crafting a Kit for Kids

My name is Limor, and my journey began in a small kibbutz in Israel, near the border with Lebanon. From just three days old, I lived in a communal children’s house, separate from my parents, sharing space with other children my age. Growing up amidst the constant tension of war, with frequent stays in shelters, I internalized the narratives of trauma woven into my childhood.

Over time, however, I discovered unexpected gifts within those experiences. My sensitivity to the world, ability to attune to nonverbal cues, and capacity to understand the state of another person's nervous system through bodily signals and biological markers—enabling me to co-regulate effectively—were all rooted in those early years. What once felt like the weight of trauma became the foundation for my work in helping others feel safe and heal.

For over 20 years, I have been an occupational therapist specializing in child development. I hold a Master’s degree in the field and have worked with children facing developmental challenges, guided parents and professionals, and shared my expertise through lectures. I am an Occupational Therapist (MA), DIR/Floortime therapist and instructor, Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) provider, Polyvagal-informed therapist, advocate of Nonviolent Communication, and deeply passionate about interoception (the sense of our own self).

Despite my professional background, motherhood brought unexpected challenges. When my two sons struggled with sensory and emotional regulation, I realized that to truly support them, I first needed to understand and regulate my own autonomic nervous system. As parents, we are a crucial resource for our children, providing the co-regulation they depend on. This journey not only enabled me to better support my sons but also taught me the importance of caring for myself and reclaiming my inner strength.

Today, this personal transformation shapes the work I do with other parents and children. I created the SENCIA Kit as a resource to help children and educators connect with their autonomic nervous systems. By learning to recognize their body’s signals, children can unlock the “superpower” of emotional awareness, self-regulation, and meaningful communication.

The SENCIA Kit isn’t just a tool for managing emotions—it’s a gateway to building resilience, fostering connection, and creating spaces where children and the adults who support them can thrive.
